Asbestos Accreditation and Reaccreditation

Initial Classes:

UF/TREEO's initial asbestos courses are approved by the EPA and the State of Florida for persons wishing to receive accreditation. EPA-approved training courses are in accordance with Florida BPR: Licensure of Asbestos Professionals (Training Provider No. FL 49-0000995).

In Florida, Asbestos Inspectors/Management Planners, and Project Designers must work under the direction of a Florida Licensed Asbestos Consultant, Asbestos Contactor/Supervisors must work under the direction of a Florida Licensed Asbestos Contractor.

A Certificate of Accreditation and photo wallet card will be issued for those who attend and successfully complete the initial course(s).

It is a mandatory EPA requirement for participants to arrive on time and remain in the classroom for the duration of the course to receive their certificates.

Refresher Classes:

UF/TREEO's asbestos refresher courses are approved by the EPA and the State of Florida (Training Provider No. FL 49-0000995) for persons wishing to receive reaccreditation. To be reaccredited in the courses you must provide proof of having successfully completed the initial EPA-approved training course in accordance with FL BPR: Licensure of Asbestos Professionals and any annual refresher courses in the discipline in which you seek reaccreditation. If your initial and latest refresher course certificates were issued through another training provider, you must submit copies with your registration form.

Students are required to take a refresher course within one year of the date of their initial course, or their last refresher, to legally work in the State of Florida.

There is an additional grace period of one year if a student is not working in the area. However, if the student goes over two years from the exact date of their initial course, or last refresher, then they must take the initial course again.

Successful completion of a 25-question examination is required for all refresher courses. Except Ref: Project Design, which has 50 questions. Participants are required to score 70% or above on this exam. See the Refresher Exam Study Guides below to help you prepare for the refresher exams.

Examinations

Examinations are required for all initial and refresher accreditation courses. Participants are required to score 70% or above to receive their certificate of accreditation.

Refresher Examination Study Guides

Effective June 1, 2005 revised Chapter 61E1, Florida Administrative Code requires exams for all refresher courses, including: Asbestos: Inspector, Management Planner, Contractor/Supervisor, Project Designer, and Worker. The questions contained in the documents below will help you prepare for these upcoming exams.

Working Outside of the State of Florida

It is the responsibility of the persons who plan to do asbestos abatement work in other states to contact the particular state(s) to verify that accreditation, licensure, and other requirements are met.

"State accreditation programs may have more stringent requirements than does the EPA Model Accreditation Plan. As a result some EPA approved training courses may not meet the requirements of a particular State's Accreditation Program." -US--EPA

Our Asbestos Refreshers for Inspector, Managerial Planner, and Contractor Supervisor are currently approved by Alabama Safe State.
