The CIB (International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction) was established in the 1950s for the purpose of serving as a forum for sharing research findings on a variety of construction-related topics. CIB W99, Working Commission on Safety and Health on Construction Sites, was founded in 1995. W99 will host the 2008 International Conference with the theme “Evolution of and Directions in Construction Safety and Health” in Gainesville, Florida, USA.

Objectives
The broad objectives of the conference are:
  • To identify the challenges presented by safety and health concerns in the construction industry in countries at various stages of development;
  • To discuss how the construction industry, private enterprises, and individual practitioners can meet these challenges;
  • To identify priority areas for research and policy initiatives;
  • To foster, encourage and promote collaborative research in the application of integrated construction safety and health throughout the lifecycle of the design, construction, occupancy and eventual demolition of buildings and other facilities;
The organizers aim to bring together practitioners, academics, administrators and researchers representing contracting organizations, educational institutions, government agencies, consulting enterprises, and other construction related organizations from all over the world.
