On-site Training Only

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the concepts, components, and implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS).You will learn about the different types of EMS's including the National Biosolids Partnership EMS. Content will focus on the elements and benefits of an EMS, the key steps in developing a plan for implementation, the major pitfalls in implementation, how to integrate environmental issues into all aspects of business; as well as, ensuring continual improvement of environmental management and EMS documentation.
In addition, you will learn the implications of using Environmental Management Systems to see how your company can benefit from an EMS in your facility. Topics covered include: definitions of EMS, ISO, standards and their importance, environmental performance, important considerations, obstacles to implementation, and how an EMS can help you improve compliance.
The course format includes presentations, discussion, and case studies.
Daily morning and afternoon breaks are scheduled. You are on your own for lunch.
Course Objective
At the completion of the training the student should be able to identify the steps to design and implement an EMS.

Course Instructor
William T. Engel, Ph.D., CET is currently director of the University of Florida’s TREEO Center, which offers more than 250 short courses, seminars, workshops and conferences annually for the environmental professional. He is also an affiliate faculty member of the University of Florida's College of Natural Resources and the Environment and holds a doctorate in chemistry and environmental systems management.
 
Dr. Engel managed the environmental training centers in Maryland and South Carolina as well as directed academic degree programs titled, "Pollution Abatement Technology and Environmental Engineering Technology." He is currently teaching a series of ISO 14000 environmental management systems courses. He is a Certified Environmental Trainer, past president of the National Environmental Training
