Description

In this course you learn about HUD guidelines and the OSHA Lead in Construction Standard. You participate in interactive problem-solving sessions on issues affecting residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. In addition, you benefit from hands-on activities and demonstrations featuring state-of-the-art abatement techniques and personal protective equipment. Course topics include: lead history and uses, regulatory review, legal and insurance issues, hazard recognition, personal protective equipment, worker training and supervisory techniques, abatement overview, work practices, waste disposal, cost estimation, and the community relations process.

Refresher courses are required by US-EPA every three years.

Upon successful completion of the course, including exam, you receive an interim certificate valid for 6 months while you apply to US-EPA for your certification.

Daily breaks provided. Lunch provided on day four. You are on your own for lunch on other days.

You must be in attendance for entire course to receive continuing education credit and a Certificate of Completion.

About the Course

UF/TREEO Center has received EPA-accreditation to offer lead-based paint activities courses pursuant to 40 CRF Part 745, Subpart L (61 FR 45778, August 29, 1996). This course is only approved for purposes of certification under Section 402 of TSCA.

EPA's lead training and certification rules went into effect on March 1, 2000 in Florida. If you do lead work in target housing or child-occupied facilities, you must be accredited by EPA Region 4.

This course is based on the current EPA Model Curriculum. This course includes 40 training hours, with 15 hours devoted to hands-on-training.

Certification and Accreditation

At the completion/test passage of our initial course, UF/TREEO issues a "Certificate of Course Completion." This certificate will serve as an interim certification for an individual for 6 months. This interim certification allows you to conduct lead-based paint activities without being in violation of the law during this time period. Please note that the interim certification exists only for completion of initial courses, not the refresher courses.

For you to receive EPA's "Certificate to Conduct Lead-Based Paint Activities," you must submit an "Application for Individuals to Conduct Lead-Based Paint Activities," to EPA, along with the appropriate fee. EPA will review your application and once approved, require you to sit for an EPA Certificate Exam. After you successfully complete their exam, then EPA will issue your certification. Course refreshers are required every three years. For further information you can contact Rose Anne Rudd, Regional Lead Coordinator, US-EPA Region 4 at (404) 562-8998 or go to the EPA internet site at: http://www.epa/lead/leadcert.htm.
