Something New from
UF TREEO
UF TREEO is starting a monthly E-Newsletter, and this is
the first issue, we will distribute the E-News on the last Wednesday of each
month. The goal of this publication is to keep you apprised of environmental
news and events, on a specific subject area related to the courses
and activities offered by UF TREEO. You will also find other interesting
‘bites’ of useful information. Your comments and suggestions are welcome and
may be submitted to: lbrown@treeo.ufl.edu.
In a recent brochure printing UF TREEO intentionally left
out the dates and locations and encouraged more frequent visits to our
website for details. By omitting this information we are able to increase the
longevity of the brochure and eliminate the need for multiple editions.
UF/TREEO is dedicated to implementing sustainability
practices in all of its daily processes and operations. Visit the suggested
links below for ideas that will help your organization with its
sustainability activities.
Did you Know……………….
Asbestos is a generic name given to the fibrous variety of
six naturally occurring minerals that have been used in commercial products.
Asbestos is made up of fiber bundles. These bundles, in turn, are composed of
extremely long and thin fibers that can be easily separated from one another.
The bundles have splaying ends and are extremely flexible. The term
"asbestos" is not a mineralogical definition. It is a commercial
designation for mineral products that possess high tensile strength,
flexibility, resistance to chemical and thermal degradation, and high
electrical resistance and that can be woven. (retrieved form the World Wide Web: http://pubs.usgs.gov/fs/fs012-01/)
To learn more about asbestos read this fact sheet from the
