EMS Alliance

Benefits of Belonging
The Environmental Management Systems Alliance (EMS Alliance) is a business and industry/government/academic partnership that encourages networking and peer consultation with the goal of helping organizations develop or improve an environmental management system. An EMS includes a systematic approach to meeting an organization's environmental and business goals. Utilizing an environmental management system can result in increased productivity, life-cycle efficiency and profits.

Organizational Value
The EMS Alliance will assist your organization in developing sound EMS strategies. Advantages to joining the Alliance include:

  • Discounts on EMS courses, including EMS Overview, Internal Audit, Implementing and Accounting, and ISO 14000 Environmental Management Systems Lead Auditor Training
  • Attendance at the Annual EMS Alliance Forum
  • Membership in the EMS Alliance Listserv for peer-to-peer consultations
  • Benchmarking with other organizations that have successfully implemented an EMS.
  • Participation in a mentoring program

Alliance members will have the opportunity to provide input into the EMS Institute. This could take the form of expansion of current training programs, custom programs, and expansion into other quality areas.

Support for EMS Implementation
In what types of circumstances can the Alliance assist? The Alliance can provide assistance for EMS implementation through all phases of execution. Members of the Alliance will develop and share information on such topics as:

  • How to present the EMS culture to your employees
  • How to persuade management to get involved
  • How to impose the EMS culture on vendors/suppliers.
  • Roads and roadblocks to ISO 14000 registration
  • Asset management - re-use or sell?
  • Regulatory issues
  • Risk-management planning
  • Pulling together resources from multiple departments

Partnerships and Programs
The TREEO Center is an active member of the Multi-State Working Group on Environmental Management Systems (MSWG). This organization assembles government, business and academic interests to conduct research, encourage networking and establish partnerships to improve the environment, economy and community through public and private policy innovation.

In June 2002, Florida will be hosting the Annual Meeting in Orlando. This will be an excellent time to showcase the Alliance and the EMS Institute. Now is the time to become a part of this important organization. For more information about MSWG, visit www.mswg.org.
