EPA Finalizes Nation’s First Greenhouse Gas Reporting System/Monitoring to Begin in 2010On January 1, 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will, for the first time, require large emitters of heat-trapping emissions to begin collecting greenhouse gas (GHG) data under a new reporting system. This new program will cover approximately 85 percent of the nation’s GHG emissions and apply to roughly 10,000 facilities. EPA’s new reporting system will provide a better understanding of where GHGs are coming from and will guide development of the best possible policies and programs to reduce emissions. The data will also allow businesses to track their own emissions, compare them with those of similar facilities, and provide assistance in identifying cost-effective ways to reduce emissions in the future. This comprehensive, nationwide emissions data will help in the fight against climate change. More… EPA has developed an Applicability Tool to aid entities in assessing whether they are required to report under the rule, which is available at: http://epa.gov/climatechange/emissions/GHG-calculator/index.html More information on the new reporting system and reporting requirements is available at: http://epa.gov/climatechange/emissions/ghgrulemaking.html. A guide for state and local agencies is available, and a guide for tribal agencies will soon be available, at: http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/emissions/ghg_infosheets.html. Watch this site for the upcoming ONLINE Greenhouse Gas Accounting course. In February UF TREEO will be launching an online greenhouse gas accounting course. The course is a product of collaboration between UF TREEO, Carbon Solutions and Green Collar Solutions. On average, it takes 16-20 hours to complete the course, but it may take more or less depending on your learning style and background. The course is offered through a dynamic e-learning platform, which allows you to work at your own pace while preserving the interactive nature of a traditional classroom. |
