  1. Use water-conserving icemakers.
Many icemakers use water to remove heat. Single-pass or once through cooling systems provide an opportunity for significant water savings. Water is circulated once through a piece of equipment and then disposed down the drain. There are several opportunities to improve the efficiency of single-pass cooling equipment: · add an automatic control to shut off entire system during low usage times. · modify the equipment to operate on a closed loop that re-circulates the water instead of discharging it.· find another use for the effluent either in boiler make-up supply or for landscape irrigation. If purchasing a new icemaker, look for one that is air cooled instead of water cooled.
  2. Water efficient urinals.
Replace urinals with models that use 1 gpf (gallon per flush) or replace with a waterless urinal.
  3. Install timed shutoff valves.
In public restrooms, install shutoff valves in the faucets. These valves cut off the water flow after a short period of time. The water can be turned on at the previous temperature without the need to remix the hot and cold water.
