Solid Waste: Voluntary Certification

This program was created by the Florida Sunshine Chapter of SWANA for Certified Landfill Operators wishing to attain a higher level of achievement and professionalism. This is a separate program from the requirements established in 62-701 FAC. To Participate in this program, operators must meet the following criteria:

They must complete an approved Florida landfill operator short school and pass the exam.
Have a high school diploma or GED.
Have four years of landfill experience with a minimum of two years in a supervisory position.

Participants’ supervisors must provide a letter verifying the criteria has been met. The letter is submitted to Dawn Jenkins, UF/TREEO Center. After the application is reviewed, qualified participants will receive a numbered certificate from the University of Florida TREEO Center and the Florida Sunshine Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA). This certificate is only issued to a person one time.
