Water or Wastewater Operator Licensure Eligibility
To be eligible for operator licensure the applicant must meet the following criteria:
Class D* operator:
- Have a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Obtain a passing score on the Class D examination
- 3 months experience
or
- Document successful completion of the appropriate training course no more than five the application submittal and have at least one hour of experience under a certified operator of the 3 months experience requirement
Class C operator:
- Have a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Document at least 1 year (2,080 hours) experience
- Obtain a passing score on the Class C examination
Class B operator:
- Have an active Class C license of the same type;
- Document at least 3 years (6,240 hours) of experience
- Obtain a passing score on the Class B examination
Class A operator:
- Have an active Class B license of the same type;
- Document at least 5 years (10,400 hours) of experience
- Obtain a passing score on the Class A examination
*The Class D license is mainly for people who own and/or operate a small water or wastewater
a motel/hotel, RV park, campground, or mobile home community. A class D licensed operator is
operating one (1) water and/or wastewater treatment system of the class D category only.
